red YJ project

I just got my hands on this 1987 Jeep wrangler YJ the other day. A friend of mine picked it up for next to nothing at a police auction. He already went through it pretty well, installing a rebuilt carburetor and a new distributor and plug wires. It runs decently and we'll likely start bolting some parts on it pretty soon. the dual tube bumpers will come off first and we'll replace the extra long shackles and extra tall body lift that are in place to fit the 33-inch tires.

I removed a bikini top rail from the windshield frame to discover that this particular YJ used to be silver. Not a big surprise since it came from a police auction.

I decided to remove the chrome grille cover and found that it wasn't even bolted on. instead it just had some long bolts through the holes that were held down by the hood when it was closed. it took about 30 seconds to pull the nutless bolts and remove the grille all together.

I'll throw the chrome grille cover in the messy garage for the time and eventually install it on a friends jeep as a gag. should be some good fun.

red YJ body mount

this is just about the most awesome body mount I've ever seen. i don't know what it is but it isn't a body mount-rather it was likely just the right size for a missing mount. even better, the 3-inch body lift that's installed has a single body spacer under the middle of the grille with no supports at the sides. there isn't any provisions for the motor mounts or raditor mounts either. I'll install a new 1-inch body mount kit at the same time of a new suspension system.
