JK Vapor Canisters - Relocating them is good

Jeep JK Evap Relocation Kit

Jeep JK Wranglers have the EVAP (vapor) canisters mounted directly in harm’s way.  They can get hit and torn off easily in the rocks or woods.

This is not a good thing.  I’ve chosen to use the Kilby EVAP Canister relocating kit that moves the canister up over the rearend, behind the gas tank.  It also has a nifty skidplate (pictured here) that is nice, but if you hit the skidplate after relocating the canister, I suspect you’ll be having much bigger problems.

I’ve mentioned a couple of places in upcoming issues of the magazine that tearing off the EVAP canister puts the JK in limp mode, because that was what I was told by a friend at Jeep.  I tried disconnecting the canister to see what would happen.  Besides a trouble code and a light on the dash, the JK still ran.  So, when you read my dire predictions regarding the loss of the canister in the magazine, disregard them.  I wouldn’t permanently remove the thing, mind you, but it looks like if it gets torn off you’ll still be able to get home.
