It's unbelievable that the oil companies are driving a dagger into the heart of our country by continuing to rake in obscene profits and destroying our economy. The argument has been made that since the companies are multinational, they don't care, or even harbor malice toward the United States. I disagree with this argument and believe that even if a multinational doesn't like us, it would be foolish to destroy the largest market on the planet for their petroleum.
I recently watched a congressional hearing where a number of oil company CEOs answered questions about the reason for the rising oil prices. The price-per-barrel of oil was mentioned. The question was then asked why the companies were still raking in more profit than at any other time in history. Finally, these arrogant jackals smirked and, while each one said this in their own way, stated that they were gettin' it while the gettin's good. The gettin' has certainly been good the last eight years with congress unwilling to do anything about this. Government intervention is bad, but in this case, IMHO, we need another Teddy Roosevelt to make the oil companies heel.
What do you think?
