I had the chance to meet up with www.JeepExpeditions.org last November for a run over the Mojave Road. To be a member, you've gotta have a Jeep. Your Jeep can be a Willys, a Kaiser, AMC, or Mopar, but it must be a Jeep.
One of the rigs from the run is owned by Steve Schlueter, a retired Jeep engineer. It looks mild on the outside, but there's cool stuff from stem to stern-right down to the trailer Steve pulls.
I only got a few shots of Steve's rig, much to my regret. Hopefully I'll have the chance to meet Steve again on the trail.
The trailer features a spring-loaded pintle hitch. The pintle-style hitch is famous for its ability to handle extreme angles between the tow rig and the trailer. The spring in the hitch reduces shock forces transmitted between the trailer and the CJ.
At night, the tent folds open and provides a stable, comfy shelter.
Steve also built a stove stand into the trailer, and had hot chocolate and hot cider available for all takers in the morning.
I snapped a few detail shots of the CJ; those will be tomorrow's blog.
