It's pretty obvious that big government isn't going to fix our state park system. Big government is about as efficient as a Ford 360 FE engine--dismal!
There are a couple of things we can do, though.
I recently joined the California State Parks Foundation, an organization dedicated to the well-being of California's State Parks. The more people who join, the greater the clout. So, that's one thing.
The next thing is to light a fire under your local legislator, and tell him or her that the state parks are too valuable to lock away from the public. I learned that for every dollar spent on the state parks, about $2.35 is returned to the State's general fund through tax dollars collected from park visitors in surrounding communities. Simply stated, tourism generates tax revenue. Thus, cutting off the state parks is short-sighted and will ultimately COST the state money instead of SAVING it.
The California State Parks Foundation has set up a website dedicated to keeping California's State Parks open.
A final sentiment for today: I voted for Ahnold and thought the Gubernator was pretty cool. Lately, he's been a letdown. Maybe we shoulda kept Gumby instead.
