With Fiat now holding the reigns of the Jeep brand it reminded me of some Fiat 4x4 images I dug up long before Chrysler started tanking.
The vehicle is called the Fiat “Campagnola” diesel. According to the brochure the diesel Campagnola is “a motor vehicle of Fiat design and construction throughout. It has 4-wheel drive and can run even off the road, on any kind of ground, and climb the stiffest gradients. It can be used for an infinite variety of industrial jobs and is particularly useful in the country for agricultural, land reclamation and mountain work.”
The Campagnola also seated 6, had a 1,100-pound payload, could travel 55 mph, and climb gradients over 85% (a 40 degree angle of inclination). The Campagnola could pull 3,300 pounds. The diesel engine was a straight four OHV mill that offered 47hp. The vehicles were produced from 1951 to 1973 as the Fiat Campagnola and then from 1974 to 1987 as the Fiat “Nuova” Campignola. The Nuova models were complete redesigns and received more powerful engines and MacPherson struts. The Campagnola was and still likely is used by every Italian armed forces division (truly making it the Jeep of Italy). It was offered in standard and long wheelbase and with a hard or soft top.
