It's easy to start a project, and it's almost as easy to half-finish a project. Once the rig is running and functioning past a certain threshold it's pretty tough to keep tuning and fabricating and painting. It's much more fun to go play in the dirt with the rig's newfound capabilities.
My 2004 4Runner is like that. I installed a set of Fiberwerx fiberglass front fenders in conjunction with a Total Chaos long-travel kit.
During the installation, I ditched a headlight support that tied in with the stock fender. There are four total headlight mounting points, so the lights still stayed in place with the remaining three. This sounds fine, except that the fourth headlight support was the most robust of the four. When things became bumpy in the dirt, the under-supported headlights got rather wiggly.
Last night, I made a pair of support brackets to shore up the headlights. I used a two-piece shaft collar, a short length of 5/8-inch round tubing, and a pre-stamped tab. After the fabrication and test fitting was finished, I rattle-canned them gloss black. They're drying right now, and I'll install them later today.
The headlights aren't going to flop anymore. The new support brackets are simple and effective. Best of all they're done.
