Cache Valley, Utah's, stunning mountains, friendly people, Utah State University, and a number of other things make it a wonderful place to live. As you can tell from some of my feature photos, the scenery is great for vehicle photography - when it can be accessed, that is.
Right after our move here, the USDA Forest Service closed many of the mountain roads that were good for 'wheeling. Also, all backountry roads are closed to heavy vehicles from 15 December to 15 May so winter users (cross country skiing and snowmobilers) can use them when they're covered with snow. Those dates are for the lightest winters. I went up one of our last available roads to do a photo shoot two weeks ago and there was still plenty of snow a few miles from the pavement. The Forest Service told a friend they wouldn't officially open the roads until 30 June this year. For me, four or five months of access doesn't work.
So, it's back to Southern Utah for us and the Utah office of 4WD&SU Magazine.
We've found a very nice place in Hurricane, Utah. Hurricane has plenty of red rocks, red sand, access to the Arizona Strip and the Grand Canyon, and is near Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. There's plenty of places to photograph vehicles and lots of good backcountry trails to explore and do features about.
So, along with doing magazine production, we'll be moving throughout the rest of June. This move is complicated by the beadlock injury that makes it hard to lift and carry much.
