Clunker? Say It Ain't So!

Too Good to Trash

The "Cash for Clunkers" program has given the auto industry a temporary shot in the arm. Shots in the arm are great, but I'm wary (and weary) of government program after government program that uses my tax dollars. I categorically wouldn't buy anything from the new GM (aka Obama Motors).

I spied no less than three XJ Cherokee's in our local Toyota dealer's clunker collection. This one in particular looked great--no good reason to trash it.

There's a reason I didn't buy my 4Runner brand new: I couldn't afford it. Instead, I found a clean used one for about half the price of buying new.

Let's hope that the "Cash for Clunkers" program doesn't create a new layer of buyers who got in over their heads because of an enticing government program. We're still feeling the tax sting from bailing out AIG, GM, the financial industry...
