While not forthcoming with a cause at first pending further investigation, authorities have now announced that arson was the cause of the gigantic Station fire that hit the San Gabriel mountains behind Los Angeles.
The point of origin was a pullout next to the Angeles Crest Highway above La Canada-Flintridge. I have driven the Crest many, many times and know the area well. The pullout is close to the city--close enough that human termites and scumbags come up to party and enjoy the view. Of course, law-abiding people visit the pullouts as well, but for the most part the true outdoor enthusiasts head further into the backcountry.
So far, this fire has burned over 140,000 acres, destroyed over 60 homes, and killed two people. If caught, the perpetrator will face murder charges in addition to arson charges.
Let's hope the perp is brought to justice.
