Most of you are multi-dimensional. Me, too. In addition to four-wheeled gasoline power, I enjoy using two-wheeled muscle power in the back country. Mountain biking is fun, even if it hurts.
Online registration for the 2010 Counting Coup mountain bike race just opened at 12:01 this morning, and I was waiting. It's a good thing I didn't dawdle: 20 minutes later the race was sold out!
The Counting Coup is a 44 mile race that includes 8,000 feet of climbing. The race starts at 5:30 am. To make it even more of a suffer-fest, there are two cut-off checkpoints. The first cut-off is at mile 19.5 at 9:30 am and the second cut-off is at mile 27 at 11:30 am. If you don't make it to the cut-offs in time you are out of the race.
Why sign up? I can't leave well enough alone.
I participated in this event earlier this year, and although I trained hard and finished under the cut-off times, my performance was hurt by severe leg cramps. I'm throwing my styrofoam helmet into the ring again because I think I can prepare better this time around, both physically and nutritionally.
