MyGig owner's alert

Pull the fuse before disconnecting the battery

If you're an owner of a 2007 and later Wrangler or most other Jeep vehicles, you know that a number of electrical gremlins can be cured with a reboot of the system by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. I was perusing Chrysler's TechAuthority and found that if we own a vehicle with the MyGig radio, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery without pulling the radio fuse can cause the MyGig to fail. While the bulletin is for 2008 and newer vehicles with the REN or REZ MyGig radios, I think I'll be pulling the fuse before I disconnect the battery of any vehicle equipped with a MyGig, including the 2007 RER MyGig.

Here's what the bulletin says:

When performing repairs that require battery cable removal, the feed fuse for the radio (30amp, for fuse location please consult fuse cover) must be removed prior to disconnecting or reconnecting the battery. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery can cause electrical spikes that may damage the MyGig - REN or REZ radio. Removal of the fuse will prevent this from occurring.
