When I see custom-fabricated stuff, I often wonder what steps were taken, and what tips and tricks were involved in creating said stuff. So it is with this series of blogs about the battery tray.
The last little trick I employed was to smooth over the edge of the angle iron before painting. I used a rough Scotch-brite disc on my pneumatic angle grinder to get this done. It leaves a smoother finish than a sanding disc.
The battery tray and patch plate are rock-solid. Even more stability could have been purchased by connecting the upper hold-down to the radiator core support, the way the factory did it. Given the strength of the system, a tie-in to the core support didn't seem necessary.
