Plug-In Instant JK Throttle Response

Sprint Booster Power Converter

I have to admit that I look at all electronic vehicle "improvements" with suspicion. Reprogrammers, etc., have never lived up to the claims made for them in my experience. When the Sprint Booster first became available for the JK Wrangler, I figured it was just another plug-in promise that wouldn't deliver. I didn't even bother to contact the Sprint Booster people for a unit to test.

Wow. was I wrong. A friend of mine owns a JK Wrangler Unlimited and purchased a Sprint Booster. After the easy plug-in installation, he took me for a ride. While I didn't notice a lot of difference with the Sprint Booster on sport, or "Green", with it switched to race, or "Red", the JK was a different vehicle! Throttle response was instant, something JK owners have never experienced before.

The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), or "drive by wire" throttle of the JK did away with the cable or linkage that used to connect the accelerator pedal to a carburetor or throttle body in older vehicles. ETC advantages include integrating throttle control with traction control systems and being able to control throttle response, such as detuning response when the JK is in low range for more precise off-road throttle control. The disadvantage to this is that corporate attorneys seem to be controlling engineering these days, and EVERY vehicle with ETCs - from Harleys to Jeeps, exibit sluggish throttle response, or, at best, less response than the vehicle is capable of delivering. The JK Wrangler adds to this by having such a long throttle throw. You have to press the pedal down more than in most vehicles to get the same response. This is a major reason people think the JK's 3.8 V6 is so anemic.

Sprint Booster makes the JK Wrangler's throttle respond faster to your foot. As a result, your gas pedal actually achieves full throttle response 25% sooner than the stock configuration (click on graph). By making the throttle respond faster to your input, the JK feels peppy!

Sprint Booster modifies the signal between the accelerator pedal module and the electronic throttle body. This modified signal forces the throttle body to open more than the stock signal at a given pedal position. In effect, the idle-to-full-throttle pedal travel is reduced. This makes the Jeep feel more powerful because a given pedal input produces greater throttle opening. This is especially evident in the low to mid rpm range where most Wranglers spend their time on the street or trail.

Sprint Booster doesn't add horsepower, but makes the throttle more sensitive and makes the Jeep feel faster.

A pendant switch is attached to the Sprint Booster. It has three settings. With the light on the pendant off, The Sprint Booster is deactivated and factory throttle settings are maintained. With the light green, the sport program gives improved throttle response. With the light red, the race program gives aggressive throttle response. As already mentioned, I liked the way the JK throttle responded when the Sprint Booster was set on race. Low range response was also improved and controllable with the Sprint Booster set on race.

Sprint Booster is most effective in the low to mid rpm range, which is where most JK Wranglers are driven on a daily basis. Yes, you may need to adjust your driving style after installing Sprint Booster - but that is a short learning curve. Sprint Booster will put the fun back into daily driving your Jeep.

The unit installs in minutes by plugging between the throttle assembly and the harness. Plug-n-Play JK Wrangler performance! It's also easily removable, although once installed, in my opinion, you won't be removing it. Besides the JK Wrangler, the Sprint Booster is available for many other vehicles and comes with a 30-day money back guarantee.

I'm a convert. Needless to say, I now have a Sprint Booster sitting here, waiting to be installed in our yellow Project DualSport JK when it's finished.
