Diesel Wrangler Revisited

Diesel TJ Wrangler Swap Kit From Mopar - Yes, or No?

Many are anxiously awaiting the Mopar Performance diesel engine swap kit for TJ Wranglers that was announced almost two years ago in March of 2008. We saw and photographed the 2.8 diesel-powered TJ Unlimited the Mopar Performance crew had built and waited for news of the kit's availability.

And waited . . .

And waited.

We no longer have to wait. The answer to our blog's title isn't good. The Mopar TJ diesel swap kit is dead in the water at this time. There has been some talk about making a kit to use one of Fiat's excellent diesels, but nothing is being worked on right now.

Green Diesel Engineering (www.greendieselengineering.com) is working on a kit to swap the 2.8 diesel into Jeeps and kit cars, but first are going to offer a competition-only kit that should be available sometime this year. The smog-legal kit's availability is foggy. Adding Urea injection would kill this kit for backcountry explorers, especially those who plan to drive south of the border.

So, c'mon, you shade tree swappers. Let's see your diesel engine swaps!
