Multiple Use

Volcanic Tablelands: Many Activities, One Place

As mentioned previously, the Volcanic Tablelands (just outside of Bishop, CA) are a multiple-use area. Multiple-use can and does work when everyone agrees to a set of rules and then abides by them.

While we were studying our map, trying to figure out how best to find the long-quiet Casa Diablo Mine, a group of dirt bike riders happened by. These guys were camped near one of the many formerly-active mines that dot the area.

Motorcycle and ATV touring is allowed in the Volcanic Tablelands as long as riders remain on designated, established routes. What an awesome way to see and experience the terrain!

Of course, it can also be a chilly way to experience it. Hopefully the riders had enough layers on. Fall weather around Bishop can cause the mercury to pool up at the bottom of the thermometer.
