In 2006, we purchased a white JK Unlimited Rubicon and proceeded to build it. A few months later, Burnsville Off-Road performed a 6.1 Hemi swap, the third Hemi they'd ever installed, in the Jeep. You may remember reading about it back then.
The project was finished and after being used for a while, the Wrangler found its way into Hyde Park, Utah, resident Ed Fisher's garage. After driving the JK for a few years, Ed decided it was time it had a makeover. The experts at Thunder Mountain Truck Outfitters were enlisted to perform the job.
I was able to photograph the results of that makeover the other day. The 6.1 Hemi continues to run flawlessly, but Thunder Mountain replaced our 2006 cobbled-together short welded control arms and leaking adjustable reservoir shocks with Off-Road Evolution's Double D long arm suspension and Fox Shox. The front and rearends were swapped out in favor of Currie Rock Jock 60s. 40" BFG KM2s were installed, as were Poison Spyder tube fenders to clear the 40s using only 4" coils.
A TMD hood and Bestop Trektop NX that uses the sport cage as its support finished Ed's JK makeover.
What a Jeep! We enjoyed spending time with our old friend that was new again. Look for the feature in the pages of 4Wheel Drive Magazine soon.
