If you've seen a Mastercraft ad lately, you'll notice that the company's name now says "Mastercraft Safety."
Indeed, Mastercraft has branched out way, way beyond off-road seats to provide a number of safety products that serve a wide spectrum of users.
Part of that spectrum includes the military.
It turns out that the same technology that keeps you comfy and safe in the dirt does the same for those in combat.
Mastercraft's military seats were required to pass some pretty stringent tests in order to be certified for military use. One of those tests was a blast test that simulated being in a vehicle hit by a roadside bomb containing 6 kilos of TNT. A force of 50 G's was applied underneath the seat. The result? The Mastercraft seat reduced the transferred energy from underneath by a whopping 84 %.
The term for the energy reduction is "energy attenuation." Thus, Mastercraft makes energy attenuating seats for the military.
The big news for off-roaders is that Mastercraft didn't produce a whole new seat using new technology in order to pass these stringent military tests. The main differences between Mastercraft's off-road seats and military seats lie in the mounting systems and in the fabric seat covers. Mastercraft's off-road seats are ready for combat, even if it's only your favorite trail.
The green seats pictured are jump seats, which are mounted to a vehicle wall by their backs. The seat bottom normally folds up against the seat back, but locks down when needed.
