Things are always happening at Currie Enterprises, whether it's a new axle application, new bracketry, or new hardware.
I dropped by the Currie shop for a photo shoot today and came away with photos of all of the above.
Check out Currie's new billet Johnny Joints. Machined from 4140 steel, they're stronger than their forged counterparts. They're also handsomely radiused at the outer edges and beautifully machined.
Billet Johnny Joints are available in 2-1/2-inch and 2-inch sizes. The 2-1/2-inch Johnny Joints come with a 1-1/4-inch x 12 tpi threaded shank in both right- and left-hand threads. The 2-inch Johnny Joint is equipped with a 1-inch x 14 tpi threaded shank in both right- and left-handed threads. Jam nuts are sold separately.
The 2-1/2-inch Johnny Joint is available in both a standard version and a high-performance version. What makes it high-performance? The body is narrower, which allows for up to 40 degrees of misalignment compared to the standard version's 30 degrees. The high-performance Johnny Joint comes with a one-piece urethane bushing which is slightly more rigid than the standard Johnny Joint's 2-piece bushing. The high-performance Johnny Joint's bushing and center ball are retained using a special safety washer that's designed never to come out of position, even using snap ring pliers, unless the urethane is deliberately compressed using tools. Finally, the high-performance Johnny Joint comes with a chemically polished center ball, which reduces friction and heat: perfect for racing and other abusive applications.
What's the price of all this performance? About twice what a forged Johnny Joint goes for.
Standard Johnny Joints work great in many applications, but there are some situations that call for the next level of performance. To that end, the new billet Johnny Joints have arrived.
