Champion Mine Camp

Black Eagle Museum

One of the camp's attractions is the Black Eagle Museum. Black Eagle? Yes, that was the official name of the mine, even though everyone these days calls it the "Champion Spark Plug Mine" or the "Champion Mine."

Little artifacts are everywhere in the one-room museum, from a 1920's radio to period advertising posters to the spark plugs themsleves.

There's also a sample of the andelusite ore, which was the substance behind the whole mine and camp.

I'm always amazed that prospectors can look at what I might pass over as just another interesting rock and recognize it as valuable ore.
