After the tragedy in Newtown, CT, news outlets are filled with statements from members of Congress saying that it's time to stop the violence.
The way they're proposing to do this is to enact more gun control legislation. It's interesting that the crime rate goes down in towns that require responsible adults to own a firearm. Maybe the "gun control" legislation that should be enacted is that responsible adults be required to own a firearm and have training in "controlling" that firearm while defending themselves and other innocents. This legislation might not stop the crazies from planning shooting rampages, but it would certainly curtail the number of casualties if the perpetrators were stopped quickly by an armed citizenry. We must be prepared to defend ourselves. Our dedicated law enforcement personnel can't be everywhere at all times.
